THE MADURAI DIRAVIYAM THAYUMANAVAR HINDU COLLEGE

BACKGROUND

The project entitled "National Library and information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content(N-LIST) being jointly executed by the UGC-INFONET Digital Library Consortium, INFLIBNET centre and the INDST-ACTE consortium. IIT Delhi provides for i) cross subscription to e resources subscripted by the two Consortia, i.e. subscription to INDESETAICTE resources for universities and UGC INFONET resources for technical institutions, and ii)access to selected e-resources to colleges.

The NLIST project provides access to e resources to students, researchers and faculty from colleges and other beneficiary institutions through server(s) installed at the INFILBNET centre. The authorized users from colleges can now access e-resources and download articles required by them directly from the publisher's website once they are duty authenticated as authorized users through servers deployed at the INFLIBNET Centre.

N-LIST Four Components

The project has four distinct components i.ei)to subscribe and provide access top selected UGC-INFONET e-resources to technical institutions(IITs, IISc, IISERs and NITs) and monitor its usage ii) to subscribe and provide access to selected INDEST e resources to selected universities and monitor usage iii) to subscribe and provide access to selected resources to 6,000 Govt.\Govt. aided colleges and monitor its usage and iv) to act as a Monitoring Agency for colleges and evaluate, promote ,impart training and monitor all activities involved in the process of providing effective and efficient access to re-sources to colleges.

The INDSET and UGC-INFONET are jointly responsible for activity listed at i) and ii) above. The INFLIBNET Centre, Ahmadabad is responsible for activities listed at ii)and iv)above. The INFLIBNET Centre is also responsible for developing and deploying appropriate software tools and technique for authenticating authorized users.

Beneficiary Institutions

The following three sets of institutions are benefitting from the N-LIST Project

i) Universities: Universities covered under Phase of the UGC-INFONET Digital Library Consortium can now access web of science.

ii) Technical institutions IITs, IICs, IISERs and selected NITs(i.e core members of the INDESET-AICTE consortium)can now access selected-resources namely Annual Reviews, project ,Muses and Nature.

iii) Colleges 6,000 Govt.\Govt. aided colleges; covered under the 128 Section of UGC Act can now access selected electronic resources including electronic journals, electronic books and biographic databases. These resources include more 2100 e-journals and 51,000 e-books.

Faculty, staff students and researchers from colleges covered under the 128 Section of UGC Act are eligible to access e-resources through the N-LIST Project. Colleges, desirous of accessing resources, are required to register themselves with the NLIST. Visit the N-LIST Website and click on Register on the navigations bar. Fill in the Registration Form online and submit it you may also download the Registration Form and submit it by post please enclose a copy of 12 B\2F certificates issued by the UGC . Ensure to mention static IP Addresses assigned to your college in Registration Form(if available) else provide a list of authorized users including faculty, staff, researchers and students.

User names and password will be created for authorized users i.e. faculty, staff, researchers and students as per the list submitted by you in the prescribed format (available through the N-LIST Web site)preferably in excel format. Registered monitor colleges are required pay $5,000,00(rupees five thousand).Account payable at Ahmadabad. Colleges that not covered under the 12B Section UGC Act but covered under 2F Section of UGC Act may join N-LIST Associate member.

Colleges should have adequate number of internet enabled PCs and connectivity to internet so as to access e resources through N-LIST.
