Extension activities - Social Service league (SSL)
Narayan Malhar Joshi, a leading member of the Servants of India Society, founded the SSL in 1911. The objective of the movement was “to collect and study social facts and to discuss social problems with a view to forming public opinion on questions of social service” and to secure for the masses a better quality of life and work. In our college, the league conducts training programmes and awareness programmes for volunteers, whose services are later utilized. It also organized welfare programmes among the poor and the destitute. In our college, volunteers are included every year and trained by giving them Awareness and Hands on training programmes which would impart useful knowledge and contribute a more enlightened student community.

Student volunteers enrolled for the academic year 2023 – 2024.Organised Blood donation Camp with Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital. College Principal Dr.K.Balasubramanian Preside over and Inaugurated the Blood donation camp at Botany Laboratory. Dr.Ravisankar, Medical officer, Dr.Pradeepa, Deputy Medical officer and technical team of Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital conducted the Blood donation camp. 85 Units of Blood were donated at the camp on 20th September 2023.Delivered Special address on Yoga at V.O.C indoor stadium on 14th December 2023 organised by Heartfulness Yoga Maha Udhsav.One Day Seminar on “Eye Donation Awareness” Jointly organized with Sivakasi Bright Vision Charitable Trust & Lions Club of Sivakasi Cracker City on 19th March 2024 at The M.D.T Hindu College auditorium. College Principal Dr.K.Balasubramanian Preside over and Inaugurated the awareness Seminar. Dr.R.Illakkuvan NSS Programme Officer of Unit No.38 welcomed the gathering. Dr.A.S.I Joy Sinthiya NSS Programme Officer of unit no.26 delivered vote of thanks. SSL and NIS Coordinator compiled the Programme. Lion Dr.J.Ganesan, the world Record achiever in Eye Donation & D.C for sight first – (Since 2007) delivered the Special address. Nearly 350 volunteers participated in the Programme.

Students enrolled for the academic year 2022 – 2023. Organized Continuous Yoga Programme Jointly with Heartfullness Yoga centre, Tirunelveli for the Arts and Science Students. Continuous Yoga training Programme for the arts and Science Students Inaugurated on 18th January 2023. In the Inaugural session Dr.K.Subramonian, Coordinator SSL and NIS delivered the welcome address. Dr.V. Saravanan, Head, Department of Zoology delivered Presidential address. Thiru. Sabapathy, Tmty. Valliammal, Thiru. Hari , the Yoga trainers train the students. 100 hours of Yoga Programme is planned for this Semester. SSL and NIS Volunteers celebrated Teachers Day on 5th September 2022 by giving gifts, greets and sweets to the Professors. SSL and NIS Jointly organized One day Seminar on World water day on 23rd March 2023, with IQAC of The M.D.T Hindu College. Mr.M.Mathivanan, Coordinator & Senior Research Associate ATREE’s Agastyamalai Community Conservation Centre, Manimutharu, delivered Special address on Importance of water and a video show on River Tamirabarani was shown to the students. Dr.K.Subramonian coordinator SSL and NIS delivered the welcome address. Principal Dr. A. Subramanian delivered the Presidential address. Dr.K.Balasubramanian Coordinator IQAC Felicitate the Progrmme. Selvi. Muthumercy of II.B.Sc., Zoology delivered vote of thanks. Selvi.Selva Saranya of II.B.Sc.,Zoology compiled the Programme. Nearly 100 students participated in the Programme. Certificates were distributed to the outgoing final year students.

Students enrolled for the Academic year 2021 – 2022. ‘Teachers day’ celebrated by the student volunteers of Social Service League and National Integration Samithi. Gifts and greets were given to all teachers by the SSL and NIS student volunteers. For the benefit of students Free Kaba Sura Kudineer distribution camp was organized Jointly with Health Centre of The M.D.T.Hindu College, on 22nd October 2021. Our College Principal Dr.A.Subramanian Preside over the function. Dr.P.Sekar,Vice Principal, Dr.D.Muthuraj, Head, Department of Physics, Dr.K.Balasubramanian IQAC Coordinator, Dr.Saravanan, Head , Department of Zoology, Dr.A.Seetharaman, Head, Department of Economics, Dr.R.Johnson Victor Babu, Head, Department of English, Dr.R.Ponmani Subha Chellam Coordinator Health Centre participated in the Programme. Nearly 350 students and 40 teaching and Non teaching staff benefited from the camp. The Free Kaba Sura Kudineer distribution camp was organized Jointly with Health Centre of The M.D.T.Hindu College, on 25th October 2021 for the welfare of the students. Our College Principal Dr.A.Subramanian Preside over the function. Dr.P.Sekar,Vice Principal, Dr.D.Muthuraj, Head, Department of Physics, Dr.K.Balasubramanian IQAC Coordinator, Dr.R.Ponmani Subha Chellam Coordinator Health Centre participated in the Programme. Nearly 375 students and 35 teaching and non – teaching staff benefitted from the camp. The certificates were distributed for the outgoing students.

172 volunteers enrolled for the academic year 2020 – 2021. A special camp for the distribution on Nila vaempu kasayam was organized jointly with Health Centre of our College for the students and staff on 22nd January and 12th February 2021. Nearly 600 students participated in the special programme. Our Principal Dr.A.Subramanian presided over the function. Our College faculty members Dr.D.C.Poornachandran, Dr.D.Muthuraj, Dr.K.Balasubramanian, Dr.V.Saravanan, Mrs.Kavitha, Dr.N.Meena, Mr.V.C.Sankar, Dr. A.N. Seethalekshmi, Dr.A.S.Ganga, Dr.V.Gomathinayagam and others participated in the programme. The Camp was organized by Social Service League & National Integration samithi and the coordinator of Health Centre of our College.

The fresher registered their name for the Academic Year 2019-2020. Jointly organized Blood Donation and Blood group Identification camp with NSS units of The MDT Hindu College on 24th September 2020. Nearly 100 volunteers donated their Blood. College Committee Member Thiru.Thalavoy.R.Thirumalaiappan felicitate the camp.
Organized One day Workshop on Hands on training on Medicinal and Cosmetic Product preparations at Botany Laboratory on 29th February 2020. Dr.A.Saravanaganthi, Head, Department of Botany, Rani Anna Government College for Women demonstrated the methodology of preparations. Dr.A.Selvaraj Head, Department of Physics Preside over the function and Dr.V.Saravanan, Head Department of Zoology Felicitate the gatherings. Organised “Covid-19 Quiz” jointly with Institution Innovation Council, National Service Scheme, National Cadets Crops, Youth Red Cross, Red Ribbon Club, Ecoclub, EDC and HORP of The Madurai Diraviyam Thayumanavar Hindu College, Pettai, Tirunelveli.

SSL & NIS Volunteers enrolled their name for the Academic Year 2018 – 2019. Annual meeting held at Seminar hall on 23rd March 2019.Dr.Selvakumar delivered the Special Address on “Acupuncture –A Healthy way to live the Life”. Dr.K.Subramonian, Coordinator of SSL & NIS Welcomed the gathering. Acupuncture treatment was given to the student who has their own problems.Mr.Selwyn delivered the Vote of thanks.
